Meet the team
Proudly independent, our clinic has quickly expanded since opening its doors in 2020. We're now a team of 19 animal lovers with a supporting network of external specialists by our side. Whatever your pet needs, we've got it covered.
Andrei Danciu
Istvan Makaresz
I have qualified as a vet in Hungary in 2000 and after a short period there, working as a mixed practice vet I moved to the UK in 2005. I have been doing locum work mainly in East Sussex since 2010 and finally settled in Seaford several years ago. Andrei and I have known each other from many years ago and we finally decided in 2018 to set up our own independent practice in Newhaven. As a locum I have gained experience in a broad range of fields and I am a genuine general practitioner vet. I have a family, a wife Kate, three teenage kids and we share our home with a cat called Tofu (as you know you never have a cat, a cat has you). In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, walking in this beautiful area, reading and watching movies.

I qualified as a vet from the RVC in June 2020 and worked in the South East ever since. I moved to Portside Vets in December 2022.
I have two dogs, Dexter the Pug and Woody the Cockapoo, both of which keep me busy and on my toes when not at work, in more ways than one! I also love taking them for long walks in the countryside and along the beach.
I enjoy going out for dinner, meeting friends and sometimes just having a cosy evening in front of the TV to relax and unwind.
Joana Bachmann
I qualified as a vet in Berlin in 2013 and after finishing my doctoral thesis in large animal medicine I worked in a small animal referral clinic in Germany. I moved to the UK in 2018 and worked in a small animal practice in East Sussex for a couple of years. After having my daughter, I started working part time for Portside Vets in 2022 and I’m enjoying general practice ever since. I have a cat called Henry and in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, gardening and painting.

Hi I’m Caitlin! I have worked in Practice since I was 16 and then qualified 6 years later as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2022. I joined Portside soon after qualifying & I’m so grateful to be part of such a lovely team.
I have a Boxer x Rottweiler called Reginald and 2 Boxer dogs called Rupert & Ivy and they are the best fun!
In my spare time I love taking them for a good run, having fun days out and being on holiday in the sun!
Stacey Brown
Hi! I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in September 2021. I love all animals but my favourites are definitely our canine companions. I enjoy all aspects of nursing but have an interest in anaesthesia and caring for patients post surgery. I live with my husband and our three cheeky beagles Lilo, Stitch and our rescue Chester, so I am also known as the crazy beagle lady!! I also have some tropical fish. In my spare time I enjoy going to the cinema, travelling, running and I love a theme park! I'm also Disney mad and have an incredibly sweet tooth!
Lucy Dickens
I graduated as a veterinary nurse from the University of Bristol in 2008. I live in Newhaven with my husband and three children. We enjoy days at the beach and adventures in the woods with our Stabyhoun Wilbur. I am an amateur beekeeper and have two elderly cats called Totoro and Satski.
Kate Johnson
Hi I’m Kate. I have many years experience working in Veterinary Practices having qualified as a Nurse in 1998. When I’m not at work I like to spend time with my husband and two teenage children. I have two Border Terriers, a Jack Russell and an old ginger cat who are real characters.
Jane Bray
I have worked for Portside Vets since the practice opened in 2020.
I love that no two days are the same and that I work within a team that are equally passionate with all animals.
In my spare time I love gardening, which is just as well as I have a large garden that always needs something done to it.
I enjoy long walks with my husband and our dog Brook
Helen Field
I joined the reception at Portside vets in 2023. This is my first role working in a veterinary practice and I enjoy the camaraderie of the team and I love meeting our patients. In my spare time I like to be creative, go to the theatre and walk my labradoodle, Henry.
Tracey Anderson
I joined the lovely team at Portside Vets in June 2022. I have a 14 year old rescue cat called Merlin, who rules the roost! In my spare time I enjoy cycling and walking, preferably in search of a good tearoom, and spending time with my family.
Beth Corlett
Hi! I'm Beth I have been working at portside vets since 2021. Before I worked in animal rescue where I adopted my bearded dragon Thor, I also have 2 amazing dogs and 2 crazy cats who I love very much! In my spare time I enjoy walking my dogs, watching and singing along to mamma mia and travelling. I have a passion for animals and their care, you will often see me out the front saying hello to all patients.
Layla Robinson
My name is Layla. I have worked as an Animal nursing assistant for Portside since they opened in 2020, I really enjoy my job here and work with an amazing team. Outside of work I spend a lot of my time painting and finding new spots to go for a walk with my partner and collie Chai!
Rachel Slavin
Hi, I’m Rachel! I have been working at Portside vets since 2023. I have a polydactyl black tuxedo cat called Raven and a cheeky hamster called Chester ! I enjoy wood burning of animals in my spare time as well as practicing guitar and spending time in nature when I can. I have always had a passion for working with animals and have a range of work experiences, working on farms and dog kennels, however working alongside the team here is the best experience.
Katy Wood
I’ve been working for animals for a very long time. Before working at Portside I was a competitive equine groom working all around the country. Dogs are my passion and horses are still a massive part of my life. I enjoy walks with my whippet Loki and riding my horse Farney. I have recently had a little girl and I am hoping she will be a great animal lover too!
